چکیده

In this paper a numerical model to study the vibro-acoustic behavior of a laminated plate backed by a poroelastic foam layer is developed. Such approach consists on a coupled mitigation strategy aiming either mechanical vibration suppression or acoustic attenuation as well. The laminated plate model consists of fiber laminae with interleaved viscoelastic layers in standard constrained or integrated layer damping schemes, whereas surface mounted poroelastic foam materials are included. Mechanical and acoustic excitations in terms of incident plane waves are considered in this study. For the plate modeling, the finite element method considering a layerwise kinematic assumption is used. On the other hand, poroelastic treatments are developed based on the Biot’s theory of poroelasticity. As a result, using the capabilities of the multi-layered model, different vibro-acoustic indicators characterizing the vibro-acoustic behavior of panels vibrating in an acoustic fluid are computed, namely, mean square velocity, radiation sound power, radiation efficiency and transmission loss of the coupled fluid-plate system. In addition, a study addressing the coupling between both solid and fluid phases of the poroelastic material in the plate-foam coupled design is performed aiming to study about the energy dissipation and sound mitigation performance of the poroelastic treatment.

An experimental-numerical study on the vibro-acoustic characterization of honeycomb lightweight panels

Lightweight components are widely used in several technology sectors such as in transport and machine design and an appropriate knowledge about their vibro-acoustic performance characteristics is desired already in early design stages. Although they are able to offer a highly attractive weight saving, lightweight structures often exhibit unsatisfactory dynamic, i.e. noise and vibration, reducti...

Transmission suite design for vibro-acoustic characterization of lightweight panelsEquation

This paper concerns with the design of an acoustic cavity (transmission suite) for the vibro-acoustic characterization of lightweight panels. This setup has the big advantage of being a small (1150x984x820 mm) which allows the identification of the studied behaviour for both structureand airborne excitation, on panels of different size (from A4 to A2) and thickness (up to 5cm). Particular effor...

Prediction and Measurement of the Vibration and Acoustic Radiation of Panels Subjected to Acoustic Loading

Interior noise and sonic fatigue are important issues in the development and design of advanced subsonic and supersonic aircraft. Conventional aircraft typically employ passive treatments, such as constrained layer damping and acoustic absorption materials, to reduce the structural response and resulting acoustic levels in the aircraft interior. These techniques require signi cant addition of m...
